Why I Use CrateJoy For My Subscription Box

When I started my second subscription box in August of 2018, I had spent a lot of time researching and playing with various software programs. I had tried a few free and paid WordPress plugins and had looked into Subbly, and Shopify with Recharge and Bold (apps some subscription box owners use to manage their subscription boxes, while for more specialized software I hired a professional company for this, which people can learn more at TechFabric.io for this purposes. We just shipped our 5th box, and I have to say that all told, I am glad we chose CrateJoy. I know that I do not take advantage of all of the features, but for someone who loves data and easy tools, CrateJoy has been what I needed. In this post I am going to talk a little about why I love CrateJoy, the things I don’t like about it, why I chose to build a WordPress front end for my site and why I am working on building two more subscription box companies with CrateJoy back ends.

We will take a closer look at all of these topics down below. For now, let’s dig right in….

The pros of using CrateJoy:

  • It’s easy to get all of the info and data you need.
  • You can monitor so many things – income, churn, etc.
  • You can connect to PirateShip to reduce shipping expenses.
  • It’s easy to print shipping labels, create different boxes (in my case I have a mens, womens and kids box and all offer various sizes for clothing) and allow customers to select variables such as size and other preferences.
  • Customers can easily ship boxes, update their addresses and credit card information, order gifts for friends and loved ones and so much more, this useful site provide the best information that you need.

The cons of using CrateJoy:

  • Their website builder leaves a lot to be desired. Even though they have teamed up with Shopify, I prefer a little more functionality and build a WordPress site to be the main lander and content home for my subscription box business. I then link over to the guts of the CrateJoy system.
  • Some of the functionality is confusing for clients.

In Detail…

It’s easy to get all of the info and data you need. As a marketing geek, I love knowing what I have coming in, how many new subscribers have signed up, how many have cancelled and what those cancellations noted as a reason. When you login you can get a quick glimpse of your dashboard….. There’s a complete analytics dashboard with lots of goodies…. And as a marketing geek, I love that it shows data like … (While I am proud of my 6.8 conversion rate, I still would like to get this number a little higher).  Traffic sources for me is going to be a little off considering we bumped our site to a wordpress front end, but nonetheless, this information is invaluable, especially if you aren’t into other sources like google analytics. This will tell you where you’re getting traffic and where you need to focus your growth.
